Good Sunday afternoon parents! It's hard to believe the first day of school is only a few hours away!
Starting Monday, we will have 93 school bus routes, transporting an estimated 6,000 kids, and covering 4,800 miles every day. Please know there will be some routes that are overcrowded and there will be other routes that have plenty of space. We adjust routes for various reasons over the summer and sometimes those changes work perfectly and sometimes they don't. The bottom line is to give us time and we'll take care of it. Drivers will report student counts and we'll start making adjustments as needed.
Transportation can also be very confusing for children on the first day of school, especially for younger kids. Many parents like to drop off their child on the first day, but they may not know how they're getting home. Please communicate with the school if they'll be a bus rider on Monday afternoon and do not ride the bus on Monday morning.
A Transportation Call Center will once again be open to address any bus concerns. The center will open beginning Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. each day and can be accessed by calling 501-743-3531. We will not leave until we know each child has made it home.
On behalf of our school board and 1,400 staff members, we are glad that you've chosen Cabot schools. We are proud of the fact that we are a very financially stable district. We have outstanding facilities and offer many opportunities for our young scholars. Based on recent Aspire scores, we are anywhere from 10 to 20 points above the state average in all grades.
Now, we also have many challenges. I'll go ahead and warn you now that we may make mistakes and we are not always going to be perfect. My request is that when you are frustrated, upset or concerned, please communicate that with us. Contact the teacher if it's a classroom concern. Contact the building administrator if necessary or contact me if needed.
The beginning of school is special, but can also be a hectic and stressful time and we certainly appreciate your patience. It's going to be a great year and we wish you a fantastic first day of school!
