Calendar Update - Making Up Snow Days
February 20, 2026
Thank you for your patience as we reviewed our calendar and instructional time requirements following the recent winter weather. The district has had six missed school days and two delayed starts (December 4 and February 3).
Cabot operates on an Alternative Calendar, which requires us to provide a minimum of 1,068 instructional hours to each student. Our calendar includes built-in instructional time to account for weather closures. The first five missed days were covered by that built-in time.
However, after the sixth missed day and two delayed starts, additional instructional minutes must be made up.
After evaluating our instructional time requirements, we are able to make up the missed time without extending the school year.
March 9 Will Now Be a Student Attendance Day
Monday, March 9, a previously scheduled teacher workday, will now be a regular school day for all students. This has been identified as the most practical solution. Staff are already under contract on that day, allowing us to recover a full instructional day with minimal disruption while still keeping the last day of school unchanged.
Additional Instructional Minutes
Since campuses accumulate instructional minutes differently, this next adjustment applies only to Cabot High School and Cabot Freshman Academy.
In addition to March 9, a remaining portion of instructional time still needs to be made up ONLY at CHS and CFA. These two campuses currently dismiss at 3:15 p.m., five minutes earlier than other schools. Due to their schedules and daily class transitions, they do not accumulate as many extra instructional minutes throughout the year as other campuses.
After Spring Break, beginning on Monday, March 30, CHS and CFA will extend their school day by five minutes, moving dismissal to 3:20 p.m. for the remainder of the school year.
Extending the school day a few minutes each day at these two schools allows us to recover the remaining instructional time without extending the school year.
Please know that District leadership reviewed multiple calendar options and consulted with a representative group of teachers before finalizing this plan. This approach allows us to recover instructional time while minimizing disruption to families and staff.
If further weather closures occur later this semester, we will review the calendar again and communicate any necessary adjustments. Our continued priority will be maintaining the current last day of school whenever possible.
Thank you for your continued flexibility, partnership, and support of our schools. We are grateful for our Panther families.
