Ward Central K-Kids Donates to ACH

June 2, 2015

For six months, some special 3rd and 4th graders at Ward Central Elementary have been raising money for Arkansas Children's Hospital. The group of 16 student members belongs to K-Kids or Kiwanis Kids.

On Tuesday, they presented Arkansas Children's Hospital with a check for $600.67. Miranda Evans, the fundraising coordinator for ACH visited with the students and told them how much the money means to the hospital.

Evans says $600 can help with treatments such as chemo and x-rays. She says the money can also help fund a fun camp for patients where they're able to play and just be a kid.

Sarah Fryar, one of the K-Kids sponsors says the group has been raising funds since November 2014.  Some of the events included “Hush Hearts,” a Valentine's Day theme fundraiser, Wear a Hat to School Day (students paid $0.25 to wear a hat to school all day), and “Children for Change, Change for Children Week,” (students brought in spare change to fill buckets).

K-Kids chose to raise money for Arkansas Children's Hospital because a 4th grade classmate has a brother who is battling leukemia. The brother told the group about the wonderful staff and doctors at ACH and the kids wanted to give back to the hospital.

K-Kids is the largest service organization for elementary school students, with more than 42,000 members worldwide. K-Kids is a “student-led” community service organization that operates under school regulations and draws its members from the student body.
