CHS Seniors Surprise Staff with Life Impact Diplomas
May 14, 2015
On Friday, hundreds of Cabot High School seniors will walk across the stage at Verizon Arena to accept their diplomas. Before they graduate, they had a chance to hand out diplomas of their own.
Thursday, dressed in their cap and gowns, hundreds of seniors surprised dozens of teachers and staff with “Life Impact Diplomas.” Seniors had the opportunity to honor one person in the district, including teachers, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria personnel or any school employee who made a difference in their lives.
It was an emotional moment as students hand delivered their “Life Impact Diplomas.” As students presented the diplomas, they read letters explaining why the recipient had been chosen and the impact they had on their life and education.
A few of the stories:
Senior Jon Dale Nichols chose his father who is a Spanish teacher at the high school. He presented his letter in Spanish saying no language had the words to express the size of the impact his dad has had on his life. Mr. Nichols said he was very proud of his son and everything he's already accomplished.
Senior Jessica Robbins honored Automotive Technology teacher Bill “Mac” McReynolds. Jessica is reporting to the Army in June and says Mr. McReynolds has always been there to support her. Mr. McReynolds was extremely touched by Jessica's tribute.
Even though she said she wasn't going to shed any tears, Isabel Marrero-Gonzalez couldn't help but cry when she started reading her letter to teacher Jenifer Mitchell. Isabel says because of Mrs. Mitchell she plans on going to med school.
Shelby Wessel also couldn't keep from crying as she presented Cabot High School Assistant Principal Alana Graham her life impact diploma. Shelby says because of Mrs. Graham she wants to be a teacher and return back to Cabot High School to teach.
Kalani Starks also had a special life impact diploma to give out. She gave one to Ms. Andrea Tucker. Kalani explained just because you're my bus driver doesn't mean friendship isn't possible. She thanked her for being a surrogate mother and for making her feel welcome when she was the new girl.
Senior Tanner Morris practiced his speech several times before presenting his diploma to teacher Mrs. Natasha Rowe. He also gave her a rose. As his teacher cried, Tanner told her this wasn't goodbye, only “see you later.”
