April 30th, 2015
More than 500 athletes competed in the Area 5 Special Olympics Track and Field at Cabot High School Thursday.
Opening ceremonies began on the field with a torch run around the track from area law enforcement officers. An athlete from The Academy at Riverdale had the honor of carrying the torch.
Athletes from ages 8 to 60 years old from more than a dozen schools and organizations in the Lonoke County and Pulaski County areas participated in the games. Approximately 235 students from Cabot competed in the Special Olympics.
There was also a young division (ages 2 to 7 years old) that took place early Thursday morning. This is the second year to offer this division (you must be 8 years old to participate in Special Olympics).
Congratulations to all of our precious athletes and thank you to the countless number of volunteers which included military personnel, that helped make this event so memorable for the athletes and their families.
