Flashing Red. Kids Ahead
August 12, 2013
School bus safety is critical for Arkansas schools and families. Flashing Red. Kids Ahead is a state-wide public awareness campaign reminding students, parents, and motorists about the importance school bus safety.
Schools and safety advocates will be using three weeks, beginning Monday, August 12, and concluding Friday, August 30, as an opportunity to remind Arkansas motorists to obey traffic laws whenever they are near a school bus. This special effort will seek to remind drivers that it is illegal to pass a stopped school bus whenever its red lights are flashing and students are loading or unloading the bus.
“Our buses carry the most precious cargo we have. We ask ALL Cabot motorists to exercise care and patience when a school flashes its red lights” says Charlie Donham, Director of Transportation for Cabot Public School District.
In Arkansas, nearly 7,000 school buses transport over a quarter of a million students to and from school and school-related activities each school day. In Cabot School District, approximately 5,000 students ride school buses each school year.
It's also an important time to be reminded of simple safety measures students and parents can take while using bus transportation. We've provided a tip sheet with bus safety rules.
Please help keep Arkansas students safe. Remember: Flashing Red. Kids Ahead.
