Cabot PRiDE Graduation

May 10, 2013

Fifth grade students from Cabot Middle School North and Cabot Middle School South attended the first annual PRiDE (Panthers Resisting Drugs Education) Ceremony at the High School Fine Arts Center.

The forensics teams from Cabot Junior High North and Cabot Junior High South demonstrated a Reader's Theater Performance that encouraged students to resist drug use. The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office provided a K-9 demonstration performed by drug dog, Officer Jasper.

Students also enjoyed a live performance by the band Liquid Kitty. Students defeated the teachers in a game called, "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader (PRiDE version)."

In attendance to recognize and celebrate the students' hard work and dedication were Mayor Bill Cypert, Police Chief Jackie Davis, Assistant Chief Danny Clem, Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley, Officer Yvonne Kackley (School Resource Officer), and School Board Member Brian Evans.

The PRiDE program was designed to teach students about the dangers of drugs (marijuana, methamphetamine, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, tobacco, and alcohol), and to equip students with refusal skills to say no. Students participated in interactive lessons that involved the use of role-playing and a variety of hands-on activities and resources that reinforced the concepts taught regarding the dangers of drug use.
