AP Scholars and National Merit Semi Finalists Recognition

October 18, 2012

Many high school students were recognized at October's board meeting for their superior accomplishments.

CHS AP Scholars
The College Board offers AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams.

Although there is no monetary award, in addition to receiving an award certificate, this achievement is acknowledged on all AP score reports sent to colleges the following fall.

CHS National Merit Semifinalists
Out of the 1.5 million students who take the Preliminary Standardized Achievement Test (PSAT), approximately 16,000 students qualify as National Merit Semifinalists.  They are the highest scoring students for each state representing less than 1 percent of our nation's high school seniors.  Once selected, National Merit Semifinalists are eligible to continue in the competition for 8,000 scholarship awards worth approximately thirty-three million dollars.

Five of the 132 Arkansas high school seniors named as National Merit Semifinalists were from Cabot High School.
