January School Board Recognition 2018

January 22, 2018

January is AR School Board Member Recognition Month. Several students, teachers, and library media specialists also shared what's going on at their schools.

School Board Recognition Month

The Arkansas State Board of Education approved a resolution proclaiming January as Arkansas School Board Member Recognition Month. The month-long observance is an opportunity for the Cabot School District and community to build a stronger understanding of the crucial role school boards play.

The Cabot School Board consists of seven outstanding community leaders. Cabot Public Schools is proud to recognize our Cabot School Board Members.

Magness Creek Project

Gifted and Talented students at Magness Creek Elementary participated in their first Independent Study Project of the year. Students researched inventors and their inventions. Once they completed their research they were required to create a 3D prototype using an invention from their inventor and they were challenged to put a 21st century spin on their project.

After planning their prototype on paper, students used the Tinkercad software to create their idea into a 3D model. After their designs were completed, they printed their prototype using a 3D printer purchased for their school by the Magness Creek PTO.

Thank you Magness Creek Gifted and Talented teacher Mary Beth Trammell and Magness Creek Library Media Specialist Sara Adkins for sharing your students and this project with our school board members.

Library Presentation

Dr. Melanie Duerkop, Director of Teacher Evaluation/Accountability led a presentation on our school district's libraries. Libraries are the heart of our schools. It's a place where magical things happen and we have 16 of the best librarians at the Cabot School District.

Several of our library media specialists gave board members a glimpse into what's going on in their own libraries. Did you know more than 145,000 books were checked out of our school libraries during the first semester? That's awesome!
