AR First Lady and Northside Elementary Promote Reading To Students

February 24, 2017

Arkansas First Lady Mrs. Susan Hutchinson was the guest speaker recently at Northside Elementary as the school promoted its One School, One Book initiative. The initiative encourages students and parents to read together. In fact, all elementary and middle schools in Cabot participate in the reading initiative.

Northside Elementary chose The Chocolate Touch as its book. It was revealed at a school wide assembly held in the cafeteria which was decorated similar to a candyland.

Mrs. Hutchinson spoke about the importance of reading and encouraged students to use their imaginations.  A group of teachers, along with Mrs. Hutchinson, performed a portion of the book. The Chocolate Touch is a story about a boy who acquires a magical gift that turns everything his lips touch into chocolate.

Principal Suzie Kelley and Assistant Principal Miriam Berryhill were thrilled to have Mrs. Hutchinson at the assembly and feel they were successful about getting the kids excited about reading.
