Rumor of Gun, Knife, Arrest, Lockdown at CHS
October 6, 2016

Message from Supt. Dr. Thurman:
We received many calls and messages about a student with a knife and a gun being arrested at CHS Thursday. We were also told that the high school was on lockdown. There was NO arrest made at CHS. The school was not on lockdown. If there is a lockdown or any credible threat to our students, we will take appropriate measures working with local law enforcement and make sure parents and staff are made aware.
We have been tracing the source of the information about the gun, knife, arrest, and lockdown rumor and it seems that it started with an inappropriate Instagram post late Wednesday afternoon. We were tipped off about the post and turned it over to the Cabot Police Department. The police investigated and found there to be no credible threat, but we are going to pursue charges any time a person makes comments that could be considered threatening that are directed at the school in any way and take disciplinary action as a district if it involves a student. In fact, the incident report is listed in the Cabot Police Dept. police reports for Wednesday on the CPD Facebook page.
Again, if there is a credible threat and/or there is a lockdown, we will notify parents and staff. As a parent of a student at CHS, I totally understand the concern. I also sincerely thank the individual who brought the Instagram post to our attention so that it could be investigated by the police department. Every social media page can't be monitored, so it's imperative that we be alerted when there is a posting that causes any type of concern.
