Magness Creek 4th Graders Logo Project Teaches Valuable Lesson
September 26, 2016
Fourth grade classes at Magness Creek Elementary have completed a lesson that was not only fun, but taught them valuable lessons.
Students recently painted the Cabot Panther Mascot on school grounds. It was all part of a Project Based Learning Activity. Project Based Learning is where a class works on a big project from the planning stage to completion.
The project incorporates various standards that are in our curriculum, but teaches these standards in a fun, engaging activity for students. This particular project used skills involving geometry, measurement, coordinates on a grid, and absolute location in social studies. Teachers decided to use art as a vehicle for the project.
With Project Based Learning, the idea is to put students in a situation using 21st century skills, such as teamwork, problem solving, collaboration, and communication. Parents also helped volunteer with this project and we'd like to thank them for investing their time in helping our students learn. Also, thank you to Sherwin Williams, Home Depot, and Walmart for donating the paint.
