Congratulations to our 10 National Merit Semifinalists

September 14, 2016

Cabot High School is proud to announce 10 students have been named 2017 National Merit Semifinalists.

The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter this program by taking the Preliminary SAT and by achieving a particular score on the exam. There are around 1.5 million students that participate in this exam every year. Of those students, about 16,000, or 1% of the total graduating seniors, have scores which qualify them as Semifinalists.

For Arkansas, the selection index was a score of 213 out of a possible 228. There are 144 Semifinalists in the state this year, and 10 of those are from Cabot. Of the 44 schools that have NMSQ students, Cabot's total places them 5th in the state.

Congratulations to these 10 Cabot High School seniors:

Aaron Randolph, Director of Gifted and Talented, Advanced Placement and Federal Programs says, “This is a great honor for these students and we are extremely proud of them. These students through their accomplishments have opened themselves up to thousands of dollars in potential scholarship awards. We will be pleased to have them recognized by the Cabot School Board of Directors at their meeting on Tuesday, September the 20th.”
