August 2016 School Board Recognition

August 18, 2016

The first board meeting of the new school year was a great one. It was a packed boardroom as the meeting kicked off with some outstanding news.

Backpacks for Kids

More than ten years ago, Becky and Chester Brown, who are both teachers at Cabot Middle School South, felt a calling to give back and help students in need.

They took their cause to their congregation, Cabot Church of Christ and ever since then; members have been donating to the Backpack for Kids program.

Every year, the Browns present a check to the school on behalf of their church. Last year marked ten years, and to celebrate, the church raised $10,000. This year, they raised another $10,000 and presented the check to Dr. Thurman at Tuesday night's board meeting.

So far, they've donated about $80,000 in all to the Cabot School District. Checks are given to school counselors and the money is used to help students in need.

On behalf of the Cabot School District, thank you Becky and Chester Brown and the Cabot Church of Christ for continuing to support our kids.

Administrators Work Session – School Presentations

At the end of July, administrators attended a work session in Hot Springs. During that time, they were challenged to tell their school's story on a storyboard.

During the board meeting, administrators from the Freshman Academy, Junior High North, Junior High South, Middle School South, Middle School North, Magness Creek Elementary, Cabot Learning Academy, Mountain Springs Elementary, and Northside Elementary shared their stories; each one reflected on their past, present, and future.

The rest of the schools will present their stories at the next school board meeting, September 20th.
