Mountain Springs Celebrating One Of Its Own
May 4, 2016

Mountain Springs Elementary is celebrating one of its own. Congratulations go out to Hsiang-yun Sylvia Melton. She was recently sworn in as a U.S. citizen.
Mrs. Melton has worked for the Cabot School District for five years. She was first hired on as an activity para and soon became a paraprofessional in the CBI (Community Based Instruction) classroom. Mrs. Melton goes above and beyond expectations that are placed on her. She always comes into work happy and excited for the day. There are several students at Mountain Springs Elementary who look up to her and always run to give her a hug.
Mrs. Melton first began the process of becoming a citizen in April of 2015. She had to send in an application and wait to receive an interview. She also had to know several different facts about the United States, including the legislative branch and who was president during World War II.
Mrs. Melton was determined and successfully passed her interview in January of this year. Mrs. Melton along with 49 other people was sworn in as a citizen of the United States of America by The Honorable Kristine G. Baker on Friday, April 29th. There were 27 different countries represented at the ceremony.
Mrs. Melton was born in Taiwan and first came to the United States in 1997 to attend UALR. She received her degree in Dance and became a dance teacher at the Cabot Dance Academy. Mrs. Melton met her husband, Lee Melton, in 1997. They married in 2000 and have two children, Auston 13, and Ozbourn 12. They both attend Cabot Public Schools.
Congratulations Hsiang-yun Sylvia Melton! Mountain Springs is excited to officially call Mrs. Melton a fellow citizen of our great nation.
