CHS 2016 Honor Graduate Luncheon

April 18, 2016

Close to two hundred honor graduates were recognized at a luncheon Monday. The 2016 Cabot High School Honor Graduate Luncheon was held at First Baptist Church.

Tyler Bartels, 2006 valedictorian, was the guest speaker for the event. After graduation, Bartels pursued a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, graduating summa cum laude in 2010. He then completed Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy, where he volunteered for submarines.

Bartels spoke to the Class of 2016 about his personal experience in life and encouraged them with a few words of wisdom.

"The first is keeping the people you trust close. This group will change throughout your life, but the mutual support is invaluable. Life is too unpredictable and cruel to face alone. Second, be true to yourself.  As I'm sure you have experienced and will continue to see, few problems have a binary solution. The permanence of decisions lies in you, and living true to yourself and others allows you the freedom of looking back without regret. Finally, find a healthy outlet. I truly believe that releasing stress will unburden you from whatever difficulties arise. Only you know what this outlet is for you, but make sure you can do it any time. I say healthy release because you want to benefit, especially when facing challenges."

Currently, 193 Cabot High School students will graduate with honors.  Along with earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher, there are specific course requirements that must be met in order to be an honor graduate. A student must also be enrolled at Cabot High School for two of the last three semesters beginning with the second semester of the junior year.

Thank you to our hosts, the Cabot Chamber of Commerce and Cabot First Baptist Church.
