CHS Senior Named One of 23 Smith Scholars

April 14, 2016

Senior Julia Gardner has been selected as one of the 23 Smith Scholars for 2016. Gardner is one of only two students in Arkansas to be chosen for this honor.

The Governance and Scholars committees of the Kenneth M. Smith Scholarship Fund invested considerable time in reviewing the applications, transcripts, essays and support letters submitted by the 108 JAG applicants.

JAG or Jobs for America's Graduates is a state-based national non-profit organization dedicated to helping young people overcome barriers to high school graduation and become college and career ready. Cabot High School's JAG Program is nationally recognized. The year-long class teaches many important life skills.

Gardner will receive the JAG scholarship check in the amount of $1,000.

Dr. Martha Marshall is a JAG teacher at Cabot High School and says Gardner has held two jobs all year working 35 hours per week while maintaining a high GPA. She is also an Honor Graduate and plans to attend Arkansas State University, Beebe and then transfer to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Gardner is considering pursuing a career in law.

Dr. Marshall says, “This young lady can do anything she sets her mind to!”

Congratulations Julia Gardner on your recognition and scholarship.
