September 22, 2015

Sarah Owen was sworn in as a school board member Tuesday, September 22nd to fill position 4 of the Cabot School Board.

The position was previously held by Fred Campbell. Mr. Campbell was appointed after another school board member resigned. Mr. Campbell did not run for the position. Mrs. Owen ran unopposed.

Mrs. Owen graduated with honors from Union High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1994 and went  on to receive her Bachelors of Arts in 1998 from Oklahoma Baptist University with a major in Family Development and a minor in Spanish education. Mrs. Owen had a career as social worker for the state of Tennessee as well as a high school Spanish teacher in Memphis, TN. She currently works at her husband's office, Owen Orthodontics, in an administrative role.

Mrs. Owen is married to Dr. Clayton Owen of Fort Smith, AR and they are proud parents to Sam (12), Abe (10), Eloise (9) and Zeke (1 year). She and her husband have been residents of Cabot since 2004.

Mrs. Owen served as the President of the Cabot Panther Foundation from 2010â€2014 and currently serves as an Executive Board member of the Foundation as well as an  Executive Board member of the Cabot Chamber of Commerce. She is active in the PTO of both Southside Elementary and Cabot Middle School South. Mrs. Owen taught  part of the “Empower” abstinence curriculum, provided by Options Pregnancy Center, in the Cabot Public Schools.

Mrs. Owen and her family are members of Fellowship Bible Church, Cabot, where she serves as part of the worship team and is active in Women's ministry. When Mrs. Owen and her husband were considering a location to establish his Orthodontic practice, she told him she wanted a community with two things; a  strong public school system and a good church home. She feels extremely blessed to have found both things.

Superintendent Dr. Tony Thurman is excited to have Mrs. Owen on the Cabot School Board. He says she will help make a positive difference for our students.
