Middle School

The Cabot Public School District's middle level program for gifted students adheres to the Gifted and Talented Rules and Regulations: Program Approval Standards set by the Arkansas Department of Education.  Services are provided by one full-time certified Gifted/Talented specialist and one paraprofessional at each middle school.

Identified G/T students are served through a send-out program.  Students have daily access to the G/T resource room where they complete Independent Study Plans (ISPs).  The ISP is developed collaboratively with the student and the G/T specialist based upon individual interest and academic ability/need.  Identified students also meet one hour per week for G/T Seminar.  G/T Seminar addresses the affective needs of gifted students, and promotes logical and creative thinking skills.  Identified students receive direct instruction for a minimum of 150 minutes per week; however, many students exceed the 150 minute time requirement.  G/T students participate in field experiences such as Global Explorers and Global Challenge offered through Heifer International.  In addition, service learning projects are scheduled each month including cross generational buddies at a retirement facility and reading mentors at an elementary school.  Identified students at the middle school level are involved in ancillary programs such as quiz bowl, Knowledge Master, Math League, spelling bees, and debate tournaments.  Shadowing experiences related to student ISPs and guest speakers from the community are scheduled on a regular basis.

In addition to direct services, the G/T specialist serves highly capable students through G/T Talent Pool.  G/T Talent Pool provides enrichment lessons and ISPs which are closely tied to content taught in the regular classroom.
