Cabot Students Pledge To 'Spread the Word To End the Word'

March 13, 2015

March 13, 2015

"I'm changing Cabot today, Arkansas tomorrow, and then the world will follow," said Cabot High School Junior and Special Olympics Ambassador Trea Kiser when asked why he volunteers his time for those in need. 'Spread the Word to End the Word' is part of a Special Olympics campaign to raise awareness of the derogatory use of the R-Word (retard/retarded).

Friday, during both high school lunches, Trea and his friends (Tristin Snodgrass, Christian Weatherley and Dylan Ball) asked students to sign a banner to promise to get rid of the R-word.

The R-word hurts because it's exclusive, it's offensive and derogatory. This campaign asks people to pledge to stop saying the R-word as a starting point toward creating more accepting attitudes and communities for all people.

This is Trea's second year to promote this campaign and his banners received hundreds of signatures. Trea was also part of the recent Polar Bear Plunge held in Cabot and successfully recently raised more than $8,000.
