CMSS Redesignated as an “Arkansas Diamond School to Watch

Dec.11th, 2014
Congratulations to Cabot Middle School South on once again being named an "Arkansas Diamond School to Watch." Principal, Georgia Chastain received the exciting news recently.
According to the Diamond School to Watch program, a school that is given this recognition is one that is conscientiously moving to fully meet the national endorsed criteria for high performing middle schools.
It's also a school that has made marked progress in meeting all of these criteria, including measureable gains in the academic achievement of all students over time.
These schools serve as models and mentors for other schools seeking to improve, even as they continue their own efforts as a Diamond School to Watch.
Mrs. Chastain says the school had to submit a lengthy application and had to undergo a site visit by the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Educators and exhibit exemplary practices in:
• Developmental Responsiveness
• Social Equity
• Academic Excellence (CMSS is currently ranked 4th among all middle schools in Arkansas, 2nd in central Arkansas)
• Organizational Structures
Mrs. Chastain says CMSS involves the voices and ideas of students, teachers, staff, parents and community. They all meet regularly as stakeholders to work together to make their school a better place for children. She says because the community, parents, and district office support them so well, their teachers and students can do their best.
She will be taking a team to Little Rock on March 30th and 31st and to Washington D.C. from June 25-28th to present their best practices to other educators.
CMSS was last designated as an Arkansas Diamond to Watch in 2012.
Congratulations Mrs. Chastain and Cabot Middle School South on your Arkansas Diamond School to Watch Recognition.
