Juanita Harrington's husband passed away a few months ago. As she was trying to sell her house in Illinois, she prayed that she would sell it before it got cold. If she sold it, she promised she would donate $1,000 to charity.
Turns out, her house did sell and she moved to Cabot to be close to family. Her great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Hayleigh, attend Cabot schools and told their great-grandmother about students in the school district that needed help.
One program that helps students is the district's “Backpack Program.” The program enables a student in need to take a backpack of food home. The food helps provide meals to their family over the weekend. Ashleigh and Hayleigh's dad had volunteered for the program. The family was touched by the need and so was Harrington.
That's why she chose to donate $1,000 to the Cabot School District's “Backpack Program.” Her donation will help hundreds of students. Harrington chose to give the money to Westside Elementary because of the school's diversity. Harrington was born in Mexico and Westside Elementary is home to our International Program.
