ACTAA Administrator of the Year - Dr. Thurman

September 9, 2014

Sept. 9th, 2014

Cabot School District Superintendent Dr. Tony Thurman was recently named the Arkansas Communication and Theatre Arts Association (ACTAA) Administrator of the Year.

Dr. Thurman was nominated for the award by members of the Cabot School District staff.

Each year the Arkansas Communication and Theatre Arts Association seeks to recognize both Administrators and classroom teachers who go above and beyond to support Forensics, Debate, Communication and Theatre Arts in their schools and districts. These recipients are recognized at their annual Awards Luncheon, held at Mt. Magazine.

Dr. Thurman has been a strong advocate for the Forensics and Debate program within our district.  Cabot Public Schools offers both an introductory course and competitive teams at the junior high level, as well as both debate and forensics in 9th through 12th grades. Altogether, there are ten sections of Intro to Forensics, five sections of 8th grade JV Forensics, four sections of 9th grade JV Forensics, three sections of Varsity Forensics, and two sections of Debate.  The district also offers drama, theater dance, and stagecraft.

The district recently completed a $3 million auditorium renovation at Cabot High School.  The Freshman Academy cafeteria has a stage that can host large scale theatrical events providing the district with two top quality performance venues.
