District Back to School Meeting 2019-2020

August 6, 2019

It was a wild day as faculty and staffed packed the Cabot High School Fine Arts Auditorium Tuesday, August 6th, for the District Back to School meeting. This year's meeting included a western theme.

Employees were greeted by a live musical performance from “Sugar Creek.” There was even a little dancing! Lead singer Luke Erwin is a graduate of Cabot High School.

Superintendent Dr. Tony Thurman and Assistant Superintendent Michael Byrd opened the meeting and addressed teachers along with Cabot School Board President Marvin Jones.

Dr. Thurman also welcomed several guests via taped video segments including, Cabot Mayor Ken Kincade, Travis Young with Cabot Parks and Recreation, Sam McDonnel with the Cabot Classroom Teacher Association and Arkansas Education Association, Dr. Allison Greenwood with the Arkansas State Teachers Association, Kim Usery with the Cabot Scholarship Foundation, and Shelley Clopper with the Sharae Jones Memorial 5K benefiting student scholarships and Lonoke County Safe Haven.

Several veteran and new teachers also participated in a fun game onstage. They were joined by Dr. Thurman and two very special guests who stole the show, FFA goats!

After the game it was time to get down to business. Dr. Thurman addressed teachers about the upcoming school year and shared his goals and expectations as they headed back into the classroom. He also reiterated our new theme this year.  Our message has always been, “It's about KIDS!” This is still true, but we are also embracing a new mindset. In everything we do, whether it is on the field, off the field, or in the classroom, “BEST IS THE STANDARD.”

It was a great back to school meeting and we look forward to another great year! We can't wait to see students back on TUESDAY, August 13th.
