March School Board Recognition 2019

March 29, 2019

Our National Merit Finalist, All-State Choir, and All-State Band members were recognized at the March Cabot School Board meeting.

National Merit Finalist

The Cabot School Board is proud to recognize our Cabot High School National Merit Finalist, Claire Tebbutt.

The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter this program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

According to nationalmerit.org, of the 1.5 million entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT® Selection Index scores (critical reading + mathematics + writing skills scores) qualify for recognition in the National Merit® Scholarship Program.

Claire is an AP Scholar and is involved in many organizations at Cabot High School including the Cabot Varsity Forensics team, where she serves as a team captain. She is the current State Champion in International Extemporaneous Speaking and represented Arkansas at the National Forensics Tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

She also represented Cabot at Arkansas Girls State, and was selected as an Arkansas delegate for the National Electric Cooperatives Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. Claire is very active in our community and she plans on attending Southern Methodist University or Texas Christian University. She would like to double major in International Relations and Political Science.

Congratulations again to CHS senior Claire Tebbutt on this outstanding recognition!

All-State Choir

Students auditioned for the All-Region Choir in October, where they had to sing excerpts of pieces they've been working on. The top 20 in each section were eligible to audition for the All-State Choir in February. They had to learn all new music for this as well as sight read a small piece in their audition. The top 50 in each section were named to the Arkansas All-State Choir, which is a huge honor. We are very proud of our Cabot All-State Choir members!

Congratulations to Jackson Brinkman, Jayla Dagen, Tessa Garlock, and Tess Monroe.

All-State Band

Twenty-six Cabot High School students were selected for All-State Bands. Students selected for All-State are pursued to attend colleges and universities to play in band.
