CHS Teacher Named 2019 VFW Arkansas Teacher of the Year

March 1, 2019

Cabot High School teacher Angela Beason was in for quite a surprise during a recent home basketball game. Mrs. Beason was there to support her Hometown Hero husband, Bubba, but was shocked to learn she was also being honored by some very special veterans.

Senior Vice Commander for the Arkansas Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars William Beams, District 5 Commander Jeffrey Byrd, along with John Voss, and Ken Adams from Beebe VFW Post 7769 presented Mrs. Beason with the 2019 VFW Arkansas Teacher of the Year recognition. Mrs. Beason has also been named VFW Teacher of the year for Post 7769 and VFW Teacher of the year for District 5.

Mrs. Beason is currently the Mathematics Department Chair at Cabot High School and has been teaching at CHS for 16 years. She is a board member of The Arkansas Run for the Fallen, a non-profit organization that honors fallen heroes and recognizes families left behind. She also coordinates events for Gold Star families.

Mrs. Beason is also an advocate for the Wreaths Across American campaign. Since 2015, she has worked tirelessly to help place live wreaths on more than 20,000 veteran's headstones throughout Arkansas. In 2018, she was selected by the leadership of Wreaths Across America as the nationwide Wreaths Across America “TEACH” award recipient.

At Cabot High School, Mrs. Beason leads a schoolwide initiative called “Thankful Thursday.” Each week, students write messages of encouragement to veterans, first responders, teachers, custodians, grandparents, and many more.  During this time she also shares stories of American heroes in their community and across the country.

Mrs. Beason was nominated by former Post Commander Ken Adams. He praises Mrs. Beason stating she embodies the commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to her students through words and deeds and deserves this honor.

Congratulations Mrs. Beason!
