September 2015 School Board Recognition

September 21, 2015

A school board member and nine high school students were all recognized for their accomplishments at the Sept. 15th, school board meeting.

School Board Member Fred Campbell

Superintendent Dr. Tony Thurman gave a special recognition to school board member Fred Campbell. This was Mr. Campbell's last meeting as a Cabot School Board member. Mr. Campbell took over this position in 2014 when another member resigned. He previously served on the Cabot School Board for twelve and a half years ending in 2011.

Mr. Campbell's appointment lasted until the regularly scheduled election for this position in September 2015. He did not run for the position. Mr. Campbell is retired from the banking industry and currently serves on the Cabot Scholarship Foundation.

National Merit Semifinalists

The Cabot School District is proud to announce we have nine National Merit Semifinalists. The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter this program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

In early September, about 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, are notified that they have qualified as Semifinalists. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

Congratulations to our National Merit Semifinalists!
