Aug. 2015 School Board Recognition: Married Cabot Teachers and Church Making a Difference
August 28, 2015
Two Cabot teachers and a church congregation are making a difference for kids in the Cabot School District. Ten years ago, Becky and Chester Brown, who are both teachers at Cabot Middle School South, felt the need to give back and help students in financial need.
They took their cause to their congregation. The couple belongs to the Cabot Church of Christ and ever since then; members have been donating to the Backpack for Kids program to help students in the Cabot School District.
Every year, the Browns present a check to the school on behalf of their church. This year marked 10 years, and to celebrate the remarkable milestone, the church raised $10,000 and presented it to Dr. Thurman at the August school board meeting.
So far, they've donated about $70,000 in all to the Cabot School District. Checks are then given to counselors at the schools and the money is used to help students in need.
On behalf of the Cabot School District, thank you Becky and Chester Brown and the Cabot Church of Christ for loving our kids!
