Dangerous and Illegal Social Media Challenges, Trends, and Consequences
September 17, 2021
The Cabot School District is aware of several unfortunate trends among our youth appearing mostly on the social media app TikTok.
This trend is taking place in schools across the country and is actually encouraging students to participate in the theft and vandalism of school property.
This is a look at some of the damage at just one of our schools. Soap dispensers have been ripped out of the bathrooms, mirrors removed from walls, red dye staining toilets, tile, and basins, wet floor signs, paper towels and toilet paper destroyed. Teachers' belongings have also been stolen.
This behavior is illegal and will not be tolerated. Please know that vandalism and theft carry stiff consequences. Law enforcement will be notified when applicable and students will face school disciplinary action.
Parents, we urge you to talk to your kids. Please have these important conversations with your student and emphasize the seriousness of this situation.
School leaders should not have to divert their attention from teaching and COVID-19 mitigation to investigate. Additionally, our building maintenance and custodial teams are understaffed, so you can imagine the negative impacts these trends have on our district schoolwide.
We appreciate your support and partnership in helping us put a stop to this disgraceful behavior.
