What Parents Need To Know: Dangers of “Juuling
December 5, 2018
There is a dangerous trend that is appealing to young teenagers, and has made its way onto school campuses nationwide, including the Cabot School District.
It is referred to as “Juuling.” The device is small, sleek, and easily disguised, as you can see in these pictures of devices confiscated by our administrators.
Our district is seeing this trend at a very alarming rate and in kids at very early ages. We highly encourage parents to become familiar with these devices and watch for signs that their child may be using them.
So what is a “Juul?” A Juul is a popular electronic cigarette. It resembles a flash drive and can be concealed in the palm of your hand and the smells are harder to detect. The devices are easily hidden in clothes, backpacks, and even hollowed out markers.
Also, many students are attracted to them and believe they are harmless because companies create flavors like caramel candy, mango, mint, and gummi bear. However, according to the manufacturer, one Juul “pod,” (the nicotine cartridge inserted into the smoking device and heated), delivers about 200 puffs. That is about as much nicotine as an entire pack of cigarettes.

Due to the increasing number of teens using these devices and the health impact, our district wants to make sure parents and students are aware of the dangers and consequences. Per the student handbook, there are repercussions for students using or in possession of the device, but the health and well-being of our students is our primary concern.
Juuls & Vapes
Please talk to your student about Juuling. The district wants our students to learn in a safe and healthy environment. We have also provided resources and links below with more information on the device and how parents can help their kids that are using them. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Central Office at 501-843-3363.
