The Cabot Police Department Junior Police Academy gives kids the opportunity to experience what it's like to be a police cadet. It also gives the Cabot Police Department a chance to build a positive and healthy relationship with our youth.
Sgt. John Dodd who is also a Cabot School Resource Officer says, “These programs are a way of giving back to the community, helping build key character traits in our future leaders, and maybe even spark future interest in law enforcement or public service. We want kids to see that police officers are approachable and can have fun too.”
Each day will begin at Cabot High School. Cadets will have the opportunity to participate in the following hands-on activities:
- Swearing in ceremony
- Tour police department, jail, communications center
- Learn about the history and different types of officers and duties
- Day in the life of an emergency and 911 dispatcher
- Firearms demonstration by Special Operations Response Team
- Internet and social media safety
- Firearms safety
- Crime scene work
- Developing and lifting fingerprints
- Police photography exercise
- Searching for evidence
- Plus much more!
All cadets will be provided a free t-shirt, lunch, and snacks.
There will also be a graduation ceremony that family can attend. Each cadet will be awarded a certificate.
