Two Thea Foundation Art Competition Winners from CHS

January 28, 2015

Jan. 28th, 2015

Two Cabot High School students won awards at the Thea Foundation Art Competition. The competition was held this past Saturday, January 24th.

More than 300 pieces of student artwork from across the state were judged at the Thea Foundation in North Little Rock.

Sarah Westmoreland came in 5th place and will receive a $2,000 scholarship. Sarah's work was titled, “Within.”

She says, “My piece is based on revealing what's truly inside a person. With the theme, what detail light reveals, I interpreted light for truth. So, the truth is being revealed in my artwork. It says that even behind a pretty face, a monster can hide.”

Emily Ford's artwork, “Illuminated Sky,” earned her an Honorable Mention.

She describes it by saying, “Light reveals the details of the sky at night, even in darkness. Colors are shown as the sun sets or rises, and the colors can only be seen when illuminated by the light. Beautiful shapes and vibrant colors can be seen even as the darkness surrounds them with the slightest source of light.”

This is the 13th year for the Thea Foundation Scholarship competition, which began solely as visual arts in 2002 and expanded to include performing arts, film, creative writing, fashion design and poetry slam. So far, the Thea Foundation has awarded close to $2 million in scholarships across the state.

The winners of each of the six competitions will be honored with an award ceremony May 3, 2015 at the Thea Foundation.

Congratulations again to our Cabot High School winners, Sarah Westmoreland and Emily Ford.
