ADH Confirms Case of Mumps in Cabot School District
January 16, 2017
According to the Arkansas Department of Health, there are more than 2,500 cases of mumps under investigation in the state.
On Monday (Jan. 16, 2017), the Cabot School District was notified that a staff member at Cabot Middle School North has a confirmed case of the mumps.
A letter notifying all CMSN parents is being sent home this afternoon, Monday, January 16th with information regarding the virus. The Arkansas Department of Health requires an individual with confirmed mumps to stay out of school until five days after they are no longer showing symptoms.
Our number one goal is to make sure this does not spread and that the rest of our students, staff, and faculty remain healthy. That's why the district is being proactive and communicating as much information as possible with our students, staff, parents, and patrons.
Parents, please be vigilant and make sure you are aware of the symptoms of mumps. Mumps usually causes the following symptoms for about 7 to 10 days:
Fever
Headache
Muscle aches
Tiredness
Loss of Appetite
Swollen glands under the ears or jaw
*Some people who get mumps do not have symptoms. Others may feel sick but will not have swollen glands.
Custodial staff continues to be aggressive in sanitizing all surface areas that come in contact with our students. Most importantly, we are encouraging constant hand washing at all of our schools. Again, we want to stress if an individual is sick, please do not come to school.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact your local doctor, or our school nurses are always happy to assist in any way.
